Bill Ippolito ordered this car from Merlyn in 1973 - he was the Merlyn importer at the time.He started racing the car in SCCA Nationals in 1974 as a BSR at Lake Afton in Kansas 8/17/74 fitted with a 1600cc BDA. He blew the BDA up after 5 races and installed a Cosworth Vega engine(the mounts and radiator for Cosworth Vega engine are included).Shortly after that he blew the Cosworth Vega motor up in 75 and ran it with a 2litre Ford single overhead cam engine. He competed at the Runoffs several times and continued through the 80's running the car in SCCA National racing.(BSR) along with some 2 litre Can Am events. The car has a solid Ford 2 litre Pinto with 48mm Webers installed and has a donut style 10/31 FT200 gearbox and the original magnesium wheels as well as spares..It has not run in a few years but is all complete and could be ready to run with minimal work. The car has also ran as recently as late 90's and early 2000 at the Can Am reunion races at Elkhart Lake.It is by far the most reasonably priced car that is able to receive Can Am invitations. We have all original documentation including original logbook .(25 races from new) plus original photos of the car when delivered as well as original chassis plate. This is the only Merlyn MK26 ever made and that is a very neat deal. All chassis and suspension spare parts are still available.
Chassis # 475 SR74 Mark 26 is on the chassis plate - original plate is with paperwork (duplicate in car), original SCCA logbook, original pictures from new, original paperwork from Raceamerica (the dealer), letter from Merlyn, manual, correspondence, period pictures etc.
